Town advises homeowners to mow with chutes facing away from roadways

Clippings on roadways can create braking hazards

July 2, 2021  By Turf & Rec

Homeowners in Essex, Ont. are being advised to steer their mowers accordingly so that grass clippings aren’t released onto roadways.

Clippings, especially when wet, can create slippery driving conditions for motorcycles and cyclists when braking. The town’s director of infrastructure suggests chutes be aimed away from roads or that clippings are bagged or immediately blown or swept back onto the lawn.

Aiming the chute away from the road also prevents stones or other debris from hitting passing motorists.
